Never done this before?
Good.
Never done this before? Good.
Every one of our favourite customer stories started with someone who’d never done this before. The people who come back most often, who tell the most people, who send us photos three years later — they almost always started with I’ve never done anything like this.
Here’s what they wish they’d known.
🗝️ Driving is easier than you think
A camper or motorhome is bigger than a car. That’s the only real difference. Our orientation takes 20 minutes. We walk you through parking, reversing, height awareness, and the specific quirks of your vehicle. Most people are set up at their first campsite and cooking dinner within the hour of leaving us.
You do not need a special licence for most of our vehicles. If you can drive a car, you can drive a Memories van.
💶 It’s often cheaper than you think
This is the one that surprises people most. When you add up the real cost of a traditional holiday — hotel rates, return flights, car hire at the destination, restaurant meals every night — the total is almost always higher than people expect.
A van holiday bundles most of that into one number. You bring the food. You sleep where you park. The expensive part (flights) is often the same or better because you’re not locked to tourist-season airport locations.
Use our cost calculator on the homepage to run your own numbers.
🛏️ Comfort has come a long way
People imagine a camper holiday means sleeping in a cramped tin box and eating cold beans from a tin. That’s not what we offer.
Memory foam mattresses. Blackout blinds. Proper kitchen equipment. Hot showers. In most of our vans, the bed is better than what you’d find in a mid-range hotel. The kitchen is better equipped than many holiday rental apartments.
These are adventures, not compromises.
📶 You won’t be off-grid unless you want to be
All our vans come with solar panels and onboard batteries, meaning your phone, laptop, and devices stay charged regardless of whether you’re at a campsite with hookups or parked somewhere entirely remote.
Most campsites across Europe offer electrical hookup as standard. Our family motorhome comes with a WiFi router included.
Being off-grid is available to you whenever you want it. It’s not forced on you.
The things people worry about that turn out not to matter
“What if something breaks?” — We have a 24/7 support line and roadside assistance included with every rental. You won’t be left stranded.
“What if we hate it by day two?” — In eight years of operation, we have never had a customer call us from the road asking to end their trip early because they weren’t enjoying it.
“What about toilet facilities?” — Our larger vans have onboard facilities. Our compact vans are designed for use with campsite facilities, which are universally available across Europe and almost always clean and well-maintained.
“Is it safe to park overnight?” — Yes. We’ll give you a recommended apps list (Park4Night, iOverlander, Campsite) that shows you exactly where thousands of other van travellers park safely every night.
Ready?
The best thing we can tell you is this: the people who worry most before the trip are usually the ones who call us on day three to say it’s the best holiday they’ve ever had.
